From 14 to 16 September 2026, our President Arkadagly Hero Serdar paid a state visit to the Republic of Korea. The visit is aimed at the friendly development of bilateral political, economic and cultural relations. The President stated that Turkmenistan attaches important significance to developing bilateral relations with the Republic of Korea. At present, the Republic of Korea is one of our country's important partners in the Asia-Pacific region. Relations between our countries are steadily developing on the basis of the principles of mutual respect. Expressing gratitude, on behalf of the delegation of Turkmenistan, for the invitation to pay a state visit and for the hospitality shown, the President noted that this first state visit to the Republic of Korea is of great importance for developing bilateral cooperation. He also took part in the Central Asia – Republic of Korea Summit, where he delivered a historic address.
The trade and economic sphere occupies a special place in bilateral cooperation. Our country highly values the work being carried out by Korean companies in the Turkmen market. With their participation, a number of strategically important projects have been implemented, and this work continues. At present, 17 projects with a total value of more than 12 billion US dollars are being carried out. Turkmenistan also attaches great importance to developing bilateral relations in the humanitarian sphere. Noting that the visit is aimed at further expanding bilateral relations, and that the talks held confirm that the two states intend to further develop mutual cooperation, the President stated that the Turkmen side gives a high assessment to the results of this visit.
During the visit, the President also visited the country's world-renowned Sungkyunkwan University. There, by decision of the university's Graduate School, the President was conferred the high degree of Honorary Doctor of Political Science. The Head of State expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the leadership and entire staff of Sungkyunkwan University for conferring upon him the high title of Honorary Doctor of Political Science. This is a sign that the cooperation built on mutual respect and trust holds great promise for the future. This has opened a broad path for the further development of mutually beneficial and comprehensive relations. This visit of the President to Korea will assist the further harmonious development of cooperation between the two countries. In connection with the President's visit to the state of Korea, a round-table discussion titled “Steady Steps of Development and a Happy Future” was held with the teaching staff, organized by the Democratic Party [committee] of the Turkmen State Architecture and Construction Institute.
