On the general regulations for organizing students independent work in higher educational institutions of Turkmenistan

On October 27, a training seminar was held for teachers and students of the Faculty of Economics and Management of the Turkmen State Architecture and Construction Institute .

During the seminar, the following issues were studied in detail:

According to Section 37 of the “Regulation on State Higher Professional Educational Institutions”, approved by the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan No. 13552 dated March 20, 2014, the educational process in higher educational institutions is carried out in the following forms:

general academic studies, practical training, seminars, internships, research work, independent study, educational-research activities, industrial-professional practice, preparation of annual projects and coursework, as well as qualification (degree) written works — diploma thesis or diploma project.

In the “Regulations on Organizing Educational Activities Based on the Credit System in Higher Professional Educational Institutions of Turkmenistan”, the following information is provided regarding students’ independent work:

Independent work of students is the activity assigned for self-study, provided with scientific and methodological literature and consultations, and assessed through a defined list of topics in the form of tests, research papers, colloquiums, essays, compositions, and reports.

Students’ independent work is divided into two categories:

— Independent work under the supervision of a teacher;

— Fully independent work.

Independent work under the supervision of a teacher refers to extracurricular activities carried out by the student under the guidance of a teacher according to the approved procedure.

This type of supervised independent work includes: consultation sessions on complex issues of the curriculum, homework, completion of annual projects (assignments), preparation of reports, and other tasks related to students’ independent work.

This form of work is defined as independent work under the supervision of a teacher. Its main goal is to teach students the basic skills and abilities necessary for independent study.

While carrying out supervised independent work — which is considered an important part of the educational process — students are encouraged, material and technical resources are utilized, access to scientific-methodological literature and electronic resources is ensured, and effective monitoring of the independent work process is implemented.

For performing independent work under the supervision of a teacher, each faculty provides all necessary conditions to ensure students’ active participation in acquiring knowledge independently and applying it in practice.

Independent work of students is organized and monitored through the provision of scientific and methodological literature and the implementation of control measures.

In general, the content of independent work consists of the following sections:

1. Planning of students’ independent work;

2. Content and scientific-methodological support of independent work;

3. Supervision and control of teacher-guided independent work;

4. Final provisions.
